Achieve Optimal Vision With Personalized Correction
Light Adjustable Lens (LAL®) is a revolutionary option for cataract surgery that allows you to achieve your best possible vision after the procedure. Unlike traditional lenses, LAL gives you the unique ability to adjust your prescription after surgery, ensuring your vision is perfectly tailored to your needs. After your cataracts are removed, the LAL is implanted, and you’ll return for painless light treatments that precisely fine-tune your vision. This means you can enjoy clearer, sharper sight, customized just for you, all without glasses or contacts.
You May Consider Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) If:
- You want the option to adjust your vision after cataract surgery
- You desire the clearest possible vision tailored to your needs
- You wish to reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses
- You seek a safe, non-invasive way to customize your vision
- You prefer personalized vision correction over standard lens options
How is the Light Adjustable Lens Implanted and Adjusted?
The LAL procedure begins with a standard cataract surgery performed by Dr. Desmond. After numbing your eye, Dr. Desmond will make a tiny incision and remove the cloudy lens caused by cataracts. The LAL is then implanted in place of your natural lens. This part of the procedure is quick, typically taking less than 30 minutes. Once your eye has healed, typically after about two weeks, Dr. Desmond will evaluate your vision to determine if any adjustments are needed.
If an adjustment is required, you’ll be placed in front of the Light Delivery Device (LDD), which delivers UV light to the LAL. This painless light treatment takes less than 90 seconds and allows for precise vision adjustments, and is performed in our Bend office. You’ll return in a few days for further evaluations and, if necessary, additional treatments. Typically, 2 to 4 light treatments are needed 1 to 2 weeks apart. Once you’re satisfied, the lens power is locked in with a final light application.
Benefits of Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)
Personalized Vision Correction
With the LAL, you’re not locked into a one-size-fits-all solution. This lens allows for post-surgery adjustments, meaning your vision can be fine-tuned to meet your specific needs. You’ll have the opportunity to experience different vision settings and choose the one that offers you the clearest, most comfortable sight.
Enhanced Precision and Clarity
The ability to make precise adjustments after your cataract surgery means that the LAL can provide a level of clarity that’s hard to achieve with traditional lenses. Whether you’re reading up close or viewing objects at a distance, the LAL ensures your vision is sharp and clear, tailored exactly to your visual requirements.
Reduced Dependence on Glasses
One of the key benefits of the LAL is the potential to significantly reduce or even eliminate your need for glasses. Because your vision is customized after the lens is implanted, you can achieve results that minimize the need for corrective eyewear, giving you greater freedom and convenience in your daily life.
Safe and Non-Invasive Adjustments
Adjusting your vision with the LAL is a safe and non-invasive process and can be performed in our Bend, OR office. The lens is adjusted using light treatments, which are painless and performed in the comfort of your eye surgeon’s office. This ensures that your vision is optimized without the need for additional surgery, making the process both effective and convenient.
What Results Can Be Expected From LAL in Oregon?
With the light adjustable lens in Bend, you can expect clear vision tailored to your needs. After the initial healing period of two weeks, Dr. Desmond will begin adjusting your lens for optimal clarity. Within a few light treatments, typically completed over 4 to 6 weeks, your vision will be precisely fine-tuned. Most patients experience a significant reduction in their dependence on glasses, with many achieving near-perfect vision. Once the final adjustments are made, your results are locked in, ensuring lasting visual satisfaction.
