Experience crisp, clear vision without glasses or contacts with EVO ICL. This implantable lens corrects nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism, through a minimally invasive procedure. At OnSight Eye Center, we offer EVO ICL as a long-term vision correction solution, ideal for those who aren’t candidates for LASIK.
Achieve Clearer Vision Without Removing Tissue
EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer® Lens) is a cutting-edge vision correction option that treats moderate to severe nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism. Unlike LASIK or PRK, EVO ICL is an additive procedure, meaning no corneal tissue is removed. Instead, a soft, flexible lens made of Collamer, a biocompatible material, is implanted between the iris (the colored part of your eye) and the natural lens. This placement allows the EVO ICL to work with your eye’s existing structures, delivering sharp, high-definition vision.
The procedure typically takes 20 to 30 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis. Because it doesn’t reshape the cornea, EVO ICL is a safe and effective option for patients with thin corneas or dry eye symptoms. Once implanted, the lens is invisible, does not move, and can be removed or replaced if needed, offering long-term flexibility.
Benefits of EVO ICL
Provides clear, high-quality vision
EVO ICL delivers sharp, vivid vision by correcting moderate to severe nearsightedness and astigmatism. Many patients notice immediate improvements in visual clarity, often within hours of the procedure. Unlike contact lenses or glasses, the lens offers consistent visual performance throughout the day and night, including excellent night vision with minimal glare or halos.
Preserves the natural structure of the eye
Because EVO ICL is an additive procedure, it does not involve the removal or reshaping of corneal tissue. This makes it an ideal option for patients with thin corneas or those who are not candidates for laser eye surgery. The lens is placed between the iris and the natural lens, allowing it to work in harmony with the eye’s existing anatomy.
Does not cause or worsen dry eye symptoms
Unlike LASIK or PRK, EVO ICL does not disrupt the corneal nerves responsible for tear production. This greatly reduces the risk of developing dry eye syndrome after surgery. In fact, many patients with pre-existing dry eyes choose EVO ICL for its gentle, non-disruptive nature and comfort during both the procedure and recovery.
Offers long-term flexibility and reversibility
EVO ICL offers long-term vision correction, but unlike permanent laser procedures, it can be safely removed or replaced if necessary. This flexibility gives patients confidence in choosing a solution that they can adapt or replace over time, whether due to vision changes or the future availability of new treatment options.
You May Consider EVO ICL If:
- You are between the ages of 21 and 45
- You have moderate to severe nearsightedness
- You have astigmatism between 1.0 D and 4.0 D
- You have a stable glasses or contact lens prescription
- You have thin corneas or dry eye symptoms
- You are not a candidate for LASIK or PRK
- You want a reversible vision correction option
- You are not currently pregnant or nursing
- You want to reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses or contacts
How Is EVO ICL Done?
Your EVO ICL procedure with Dr. Desmond is performed in a comfortable outpatient setting and typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes. On the day of your procedure, your eyes will be numbed with anesthetic eye drops to ensure your comfort. Dr. Desmond will then create a tiny incision at the edge of your cornea, through which the flexible EVO ICL lens is gently inserted.
Once inside the eye, Dr. Desmond will position the lens between your iris and your natural lens. The lens stays securely in place without attaching to any tissue. No stitches are required, and the incision heals naturally. Most patients notice a significant improvement in vision shortly after the procedure and are able to return to normal activities within one to two days.
What Is the Recovery Process After EVO ICL?
After your lens replacement surgery, you may experience mild side effects like blurry vision, light sensitivity, or discomfort, but these resolve within a few days. Most patients see significant improvement in their vision within 24-48 hours. Dr. Desmond will provide you with detailed aftercare guidelines, including using prescribed eye drops to prevent infection and reduce inflammation. It’s important to avoid strenuous activities and protect your eyes from direct sunlight during the first week of recovery.
